Police: Third man arrested for murder after fatal shooting on Boston’s Geneva Avenue in December

A 30-year-old man has been ordered held without bail following his arrest in connection with the shooting death of a Boston man on Geneva Avenue in December.

Patrick Harland, of South Boston, was arraigned Tuesday in Suffolk Superior Court on charges of first-degree murder in the Dec. 30, 2023 shooting death of Curtis Effee, 41, of Boston, at 417 Geneva Ave. He also faces charges of armed assault to murder, seven counts; witness intimidation, accessory after the fact, and carrying a firearm without a license, according to Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden’s office.

Harland was arrested on warrants for murder around 5:20 p.m. Monday by members of the Boston Police Fugitive Unit in the area of North Point Park in Cambridge, police said. He is the third man to be charged in the case.

In late December, two men from Randolph and Quincy were also charged with murder in connection with Effee’s death.

Tyreese Robinson, 19, of Randolph, and Dasahn Crowder, 21, of Quincy were arrested around 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2023 in the area of 380 Talbot Ave., police said at the time.

According to prosecutors, on the evening of Dec. 29, 2023, Harland went to an apartment located at 417 Geneva Ave. with his girlfriend. After being there for hours and into Dec. 30, 2023, Harland and others, including his girlfriend, got into a verbal altercation with Effee.

Moments later, Crowder and Robinson arrived and a fight involving Harland, his girlfriend and other witnesses erupted onto the street. During the altercation, Harland was seen brandishing a knife and pointing it at Effee, prosecutors said.

Crowder took out a gun and opened fire toward Effee, who was standing by a crowd of people including a 10-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl, prosecutors said. Robinson also took out a gun and shot in the same direction.

Effee was hit by the gunfire and died from his wounds. Crowder and Robinson both fled the scene in a car while Harland fled on foot, prosecutors said.

At about 12:52 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023, officers responded to the area of 417 Geneva Ave. for a report of a person shot.

When officers arrived, they found Effee suffering from gunshot wounds, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Crowder and Robinson were both arrested the next day and arraigned on first-degree murder charges in Dorchester District Court on Jan. 2. Further investigation led to Harland’s indictment, prosecutors said.

Harland is scheduled to return to court on April 4.
