Shelby Police were in the midst of investigating a homicide on Live Oak Street Monday evening when they said a second shooting occurred in a separate incident at a Shelby apartment complex that left three people wounded.

Capt. Seth Treadway said at 11:28 p.m., just a few hours after officers were called out to a homicide that left one woman dead, they responded to Washington Square Apartments on Seattle Street. He said they found a woman shot in the leg outside the apartments.

Treadway said the man who shot her, James Franklin Clark, 20, then got in his car and went to Laurel Hill Apartments on Eaves Road where he was confronted by another man.

“The suspect left in a vehicle and went back to the Laurel Hill apartments where he was met by someone taking up for the female. That male ultimately got shot as well as the female driving the car,” Treadway said.

He said all of the injuries were non-life threatening.

Treadway said Clark has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and discharging a weapon into occupied property.

He said they are still investigating the shooting and they anticipate more charges to follow.
