POLICE NEWS: Elkhart man arrested after gas station shooting

May 22—An Elkhart man was arrested following a shooting outside a gas station on Friday.

Elkhart police have arrested Zayris Dillon, 21, of Elkhart, connecting him to a non-fatal shooting May 17.

Officers responded at 12:50 a.m. to 7-Eleven, 3624 Nappanee St., for a shooting with injuries. A 31-year-old man reported he'd been shot in front of the business and was hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police arrested Dillon and booked him into Elkhart County Jail on preliminary charges of battery by neans of a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony; criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, a Level 6 felony; and pointing a firearm, a Level 6 felony.

ARRESTS

—Goshen police were called to the administration offices of Goshen High School, 401 Lincolnway East, at 10 a.m. Tuesday for a 17-year-old who was reportedly found to be in possession of a controlled substance. The juvenile was taken to juvenile detention to be processed and then released to her parents. Later in the day, another 17-year-old was taken to juvenile detention to be processed and then released to her parent for allegedly dealing Adderall.

—A 42-year-old man was arrested by Elkhart County deputies at 2:31 a.m. Wednesday on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated at Southside Baptist Church, 29064 C.R. 16, Elkhart.

—A 31-year-old woman was arrested by Elkhart County deputies at 9:47 a.m. Tuesday on charges of possession of a controlled substance, driving while suspended-prior, and operating a vehicle without insurance prior, following a traffic stop in the area of Nappanee Street and C.R. 16 in Elkhart.

HIT-AND-RUN

Goshen police were called to Kercher Road and South Main Street at 9:46 p.m. Tuesday for a three-car crash where one driver fled the scene.

BURGLARY

—A 51-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies that on May 17 someone entered his property in the 60000 block of Graybill Avenue and stole tools.

—Elkhart County deputies responded to a report that between May 13 and May 20 someone forced entry into a storage unit at Storage Rentals of America, 28874 C.R. 4, Elkhart, and stole multiple home improvement and household items estimated at around $30,000.

OFFICER'S REPORT

—An employee of RC Trailers, 51888 C.R. 39, Middlebury, reported to Elkhart County deputies that on May 17, employees found hypodermic needles in a bathroom on the property.

—A 74-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies at 3:47 p.m. Tuesday that he'd found a black iPhone 12 in the roadway of the 13000 block of Wooded Knoll Trail in Middlebury.

THEFTS

—A 59-year-old man reported to Goshen police at 5:42 a.m. Tuesday the theft of scrap metal from the 1500 block of Bashor Road.

—A 31-year-old man reported to Goshen police at 8:09 p.m. Tuesday the theft of his iPhone from Martin's, 1527 Bashor Road.

—A 32-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies that between April 25 and May 20 someone stole an RV from the 51000 block of Greenfield Parkway in Middlebury.

FRAUD

—Sherlock Homes, 2616 Lincolnway East, reported to Goshen police at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday that someone deposited a fraudulent check on May 13 via mobile deposit.
