Police: Motorcyclist dead after Portage crash

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — A motorcyclist has died after a crash in Portage Sunday afternoon, police say.

Around 1:23 p.m., a red Toyota SUV driven by a 77-year-old Portage woman was north on Oakland Drive, turning left onto Ridgefield Road. A Suzuki sport motorcycle, driven by a 21-year-old Portage man was headed south on Oakland Drive “at a high rate of speed” and crashed into the SUV, Portage police said.

The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. The driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to police.

Oakland Drive was closed between Haverhill Avenue and Romence Road following the crash.
