Police: Man stabbed, injured by father in Battle Creek

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was injured in a stabbing in Battle Creek Tuesday night.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. at a motel on West Columbia Avenue near 24th Street, Battle Creek officials say. Police say they arrived there to find a 32-year-old man with stab and cut wounds to his right shoulder and hand.

The man told investigators that earlier in the evening, he got into an argument with his father outside the motel room they shared. He said he woke up to his father stabbing him in the shoulder with a steak knife.

The man fought back, sustaining more wounds, and managed to get the knife.

His injuries are not considered life-threatening. He declined going to the hospital.

The father, a 55-year-old man whose name was not released, was arrested on assault charges.
