ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department reports one man died nine days after injuries he suffered in an assault earlier this month in north St. Louis.

SLMPD officially reclassified the assault as a homicide on Tuesday.

The investigation dates back to an incident from April 1 in the 56000 block of Cote Brilliante Avenue in St. Louis’ Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood.

Investigators say the victim, a 40-year-old man, was found with apparent wounds to his head. The victim was rushed to a hospital, though his condition reportedly worsened over time.

A crime summary report from SLMPD says the victim underwent surgery to repair a brain hemorrhage. He was transferred to an ICU after the surgery. Police say the victim was pronounced on April 10 around 8 p.m.

According to a post-mortem examination from the medical examiner’s office, the victim’s manner of death was ruled a homicide. His cause of death was determined to be a “complication of a remote head wound caused by blunt force.”
