2 found dead in Wheeling home: police

WHEELING, Ill. — A police investigation is underway after a couple was found dead inside a home in northwest suburban Wheeling.

Police responded to a residence on the 300 block of 12th Street around 5:40 p.m. Thursday, after receiving a 911 call from a person who found two deceased people during a well-being check.

Police said the individuals were identified as a couple who were in a strained relationship. Authorities later discovered a firearm near their bodies.

The medical examiner identified the pair as 46-year-old Marisa Dister and 44-year-old Russell O’Connor. Coroners said their deaths were the result of a murder-suicide, concluding that Dister died from a gunshot wound to the neck.

Investigators with the police department’s forensic unit were inside the home for several hours collecting evidence and remained on the scene past 11 p.m.

Officers were seen exiting the home with a cat and caged rabbit.

A neighbor said the couple had been together for 14 years.
