Officers standoff against man suffering from mental health on Edgewood Ave.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating an officer-involved incident at the 2000 block of West Edgewood Ave.

JSO reports at 4:45 p.m. Officers responded to a call about a man suffering from mental illness.

JSO says the caller informed how the suspect was armed and wanted to get into a shootout with police in order to kill himself.

When arriving at the scene the suspect fired five rounds from a handgun at Officers whenever they got close to the home. No Officers were hit.

The subject then ran inside the house, communicating on the phone with the Officers that there were 2 other people inside with him.

Officers then called back up to the scene with one drone Officer.

The drone Officer was used to view the suspect inside and when he approached the door. Officers fired two times at the door. The suspect was not struck.

The two people inside the home were able to flee the scene safely during this time.

After a short period of time, the suspect went outside without any weapon to be taken into custody and is being questioned.

This is an ongoing investigation and will be updated when new details arrive.
