Police ID victim in Pacific murder-suicide

PACIFIC, Mo. – Investigators with the Pacific Police Department believe two people found dead in a home Monday afternoon are a mother and son.

According to a police spokesperson, officers arrived at a residence in the 70 block of Cedar Ridge Drive around 1:45 p.m.

A family member told police they went to the home after several failed attempts to get hold of someone at the residence. They went inside the home, made the discovery, and called 911.

On Tuesday, police identified the female victim as 56-year-old Mary Gan. Police believe the man found inside the home with Gan is her son, 26-year-old James Gan. They said he had injuries consistent with self-inflicted gunshot wounds.

A neighbor said one of the family members in the home had mental health issues.

“It’s hard saying what happened out there, but if that’s the case, you know, it’s really unfortunate. And in a case like that, we all wish we could have done something, you know? So just, if you all ever feel like that…reach out so we all know that,” Nick Cokley said.

One local domestic violence advocacy group, ALIVE, is in both St. Louis County and Franklin County. They focus on intimate partner violence but said they get calls about all types of domestic violence across the area.

“We do get that often and so if we cannot help them because it is outside of our scope, then we do provide resources and offer resources to get them in the right direction. Whether it be homelessness or mental health issues,” Karen Damiano, ALIVE court advocate, said.

The investigation is still ongoing.
