Police ID bicyclist killed in Kalamazoo hit-and-run

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Kalamazoo police have identified the bicyclist who was killed in a hit-and-run crash Saturday evening.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety named the victim as 60-year-old Leroy Carl Lawson, of Kalamazoo.

Around 10:10 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to Mills Street near Oneil Street after receiving reports about a body in the roadway. They found a “badly injured body” and a bicycle nearby, according to KDPS. Police described it as an apparent hit-and-run.

Detectives are investigating. Anyone who passed Mills Street from King Highway to E Michigan Avenue around 10 p.m. that night is asked to call KDPS at 269.337.8139 or Silent Observer at 269.343.2100.
