Police: Hiram G. Andrews Center student assaults officer, police say

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – A Hiram G. Andrews Center student has been charged with aggravated assault after he walked away from the Goucher Street facility and bit a police officer who tried to stop him, authorities allege.

Upper Yoder Township police charged Charles Quentin Swarr, 22, of Lancaster, with aggravated assault-injury to a police officer and disorderly conduct.

According to a complaint affidavit, police were called to HGA at 10:55 pm. May 16 for a disturbance.

When police arrived, they allegedly found two security officers attempting to stop Swarr as he left the building and began walking down Sunray Drive toward Goucher Street.

An officer allegedly attempted to stop Swarr. The officer struggled to control the man, and both fell to the ground, the affidavit said.

Swarr allegedly bit the officer on the arm, breaking the skin.Swarr then allegedly attempted to bite a second officer.

Swarr was taken by ambulance to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown.

The officer was treated at the hospital for a bite wound and was later released, township police officer Nicholas Zakucia said Thursday.

Two HGA staff members were treated for head and hand injuries.

Swarr will answer the charges before District Judge Susan Gindlesperger, of Upper Yoder Township.
