Police: Gray man charged with kidnapping, assault after disturbance

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A Gray man was charged with kidnapping and assault after allegedly strangling and interfering with a victim’s freedom on Wednesday, police report.

According to the Washington County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), deputies responded to the 300 block of Gray Station Road regarding a domestic disturbance.

A victim reportedly told police a man, identified as Harold Laster, 54, grabbed them by the hair and choked them while dragging them down a hallway into the living room.

Laster allegedly punched the victim in the face and side multiples before they broke free, the WCSO stated. The victim was able to go to a bedroom where they locked the door.

Laster then reportedly punched a hole in the door and unlocked it.

Another witness corroborated the victim’s statement and helped them break free from Laster, the sheriff’s office reported.

Laster was charged with aggravated domestic assault and kidnapping due to the victim being at risk of substantial bodily injury while interfering with their freedom, the release stated.

He was taken to the Washington County Detention Center. As of Friday, he is being held on a $60,000 bond.
