Police to have extra security at Des Moines Public Schools after school threat

Des Moines police say they will have extra security at Des Moines schools on Monday after a threat to a high school.

Police said on X the threat was made on social media late Friday and is circulating. Des Moines schools spokesperson Phil Roeder said the threat targeted East High School.

"The school district was informed by police that it was not a credible threat but that they would continue to investigate and monitor the matter," Roeder said.

Roeder said later Monday the threat that mentioned East High School also circulated in other states and did not appear to originate in Des Moines.

Police are working with DMPS “on enhanced security measures when school resumes” at East High School on Monday.
