Lafayette police: Driver runs red light and hits boy in crosswalk

DENVER (KDVR) — A boy was hit by a vehicle while walking in a crosswalk near an elementary school on Tuesday.

The Lafayette Police Department and Lafayette Fire Department were called to North Gough Avenue and Baseline Road on reports of a crash at about 7:45 a.m. The intersection is near Escuela Bilingüe Pioneer Elementary.

When officers arrived at the scene, they said a juvenile boy was crossing at a designated crosswalk with a crossing guard when he was hit. The light at the intersection was red.

Lafayette police said a driver was traveling eastbound on Baseline Road when they drove through the red light at North Gough Avenue and hit the child.

The driver remained on scene.

Officers said the boy was taken to a local hospital and he only suffered minor injuries from the crash.

It is unclear at this time if the driver will be cited.

Eastbound Baseline Road was closed for a short period of time.
