Police confirm allegations of Valley Center High School varsity baseball team killing chicken

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Valley Center Police Department confirmed on Tuesday the allegations of the Valley Center High School varsity baseball team killing a chicken.

Police say on Monday, a Valley Center school resource officer was approached by a Valley Center High School employee who advised there was an allegation made claiming that the varsity baseball team had killed a chicken on the field before heading to an away game on Saturday. The field is behind Valley Center Intermediate School.

The confirmation of the allegations comes after USD 262 announced Monday that the Valley Center High School varsity baseball season was suspended due to an investigation into animal cruelty.

The district sent out the following message to all Valley Center High School families on Monday afternoon:

Valley Center High School families:

The Valley Center High School varsity baseball season has been suspended due to an active law enforcement investigation. High school administrators were alerted to an incident of possible animal cruelty involving the entire Hornet varsity baseball team and the entire coaching staff on USD 262 property. Immediately upon learning of the incident, high school and district leadership notified the appropriate authorities and suspended the season. A decision regarding the remainder of the baseball season will be made pending the outcome of the investigation.”

KSN reached out to USD 262 on Tuesday. They said they do not have an update.

An investigation is ongoing. KSN will provide new information as it becomes available.
