Planned construction coming to 2 dangerous SE Portland intersections

PORTLAND, Ore. (PORTLAND TRIBUNE) — New federal funding will bring major safety upgrades to two dangerous Southeast Portland intersections.

Southeast 112th Avenue and Division Street is the 24th most dangerous intersection in Portland, out of roughly 1,000 intersections.

Between 2015 and 2019, there was one death, one serious injury and 60 moderate or major injuries in traffic crashes at the intersection, according to the city’s Vision Zero program. Another person died in 2021 in a single-vehicle crash that injured two passengers.

A mile south, Holgate Boulevard and 112th Avenue will also get safety improvements.

That intersection is home to stops for TriMet’s Line 17, a frequent service bus route.

“Holgate is a high crash corridor, meaning it is one of the 30 streets that have the highest rate of fatal and serious injury crashes citywide,” Portland Bureau of Transportation spokesperson Dylan Rivera said. “Collectively, high crash corridors add up to only 8% of our streets in Portland, yet year after year, they account for most of the traffic deaths.”
