Two people were aboard the plane that crashed in the Claxton community on Friday.

The FAA posted online that a single-engine Piper PA-32 crashed in Powell, Tennessee around 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 12. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide updates.

No other information was made available.

The Anderson County Sheriff's Office responded Friday to a late afternoon call saying plane parts had fallen into the yards of residences in the Tillery Road area of Claxton, according to a sheriff's office news release. It was also reported that callers heard a crash. Parts of the plane, along with luggage, were also found in the Ashley Lane area.

After a search the plane was found near Gadsontown Lane, the release stated.

Personnel from the Anderson County Emergency Management Agency, the Claxton Volunteer Fire Department, Anderson County Rescue Squad, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol helicopter helped in the search.
