3 dead after plane crashes in Williamson County

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A plane crashed in the southwest portion of Williamson County on Wednesday.

The small plane went down near Bending Chestnut Road in Leipers Fork, which is south of Interstate 840 near Natchez Trace Parkway, around 12 p.m.

The Federal Aviation Association identified the plane as a single-engine Beechcraft V35. It reportedly took off from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and was en route to Louisville, Kentucky.

All three people on board the plane died, according to investigators. Officials added the plane appears to have broken up while in the air.

Our sister station in Baton Rouge, WGMB, identified the pilot as Dr. Lucius Doucet. The two passengers have not yet been identified.

Investigators added the debris field is over half a mile long, but no structures/buildings are believed to have been damaged as the area is very rural.

A staging area for first responders has been established near Garrison Road and Davis Hollow Road.

Residents and motorists are asked to avoid the area as multiple road closures are in place.

According to Williamson County Fire/Rescue, closures include:

  • Bending Chestnut at Natchez Trace

  • 5900 block of Davis Hollow Road

  • 5800 block of Bending Chestnut Road

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
