Pizza to the Rescue: Phoenix restaurant benefits local rescue dogs

A newly opened Phoenix pizza shop is donating a slice of its profits to help local rescue dogs. Pizza to the Rescue serves up a variety of pizzas, pasta, cocktails, and more. They opened just weeks ago near 26th Street and Indian School Road. They say 25% of all proceeds from pizza sales go directly to Almost There Rescue, a non-profit animal rescue specializing in caring for pregnant and nursing dogs and their puppies, located just next door.

Pinecone, the vector database startup founded by Edo Liberty, the former head of Amazon's AI Labs, has long been at the forefront of helping businesses augment large language models (LLMs) with their own data. Most recently, though, the company completely rearchitected its product to launch Pinecone Serverless, which frees its customers from having to think about managing their deployments and scaling them. Today, Pinecone serverless comes out of beta and is now generally available.

KKR said it's making the investment through its Next Generation Technology Growth Fund III, a $3 billion fund it closed last year. Founded out of London in 2013, Vitesse is the handiwork of Paul Townsend and Phil McGriskin, who had sold an e-commerce payments company called Envoy to WorldPay back in 2011.

Zen Educate, an online marketplace that connects schools with teachers, has raised $37 million in a Series B round of funding. Founded out of London in 2017, Zen Educate replaces traditional third-party recruitment agencies that often use analog workflows and charge exorbitant fees. Zen Educate digitizes everything through a self-serve platform, removing pricey intermediaries from the equation in the process.

UK's autonomous vehicle legislation becomes law, paving the way for first driverless cars by 2026
The U.K.'s self-proclaimed "world-leading" regulations for self-driving cars are now official, after the Automated Vehicles (AV) Act received royal assent -- the final rubber stamp any legislation must go through before becoming enshrined in law. "While this doesn’t take away people’s ability to choose to drive themselves, our landmark legislation means self-driving vehicles can be rolled out on British roads as soon as 2026, in a real boost to both safety and our economy," Transport Secretary Mark Harper said in a statement. Today's news comes just a few weeks after U.K.-based Wayve raised more than $1 billion from high-profile companies, including SoftBank, Nvidia, and Microsoft, to continue developing a self-learning software system for autonomous vehicles.
