Pinpoint Weather: Warm, late-week storm chances ahead

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A summer-like Wednesday is expected across Southwest and Central Virginia. Isolated showers and storms may pop up in the afternoon and evening, but higher rain chances are slated for Thursday.

Patchy fog is possible for the Wednesday morning commute. Otherwise, more sunshine is in the forecast with clouds gradually increasing during the afternoon. High temperatures will be in the warmer-than-average 80s. There is a slight chance for late-day isolated showers and storms along and west of the Blue Ridge.

A cold front will impact Southwest and Central Virginia for the latter half of the week. Scattered showers and storms are possible from Thursday afternoon into Friday. Periods of heavy rainfall are possible. A few strong storms may develop, capable of producing strong winds and hail. Due to the additional cloud cover, it won’t be as warm as Wednesday. Highs for Thursday and Friday will be in the upper 70s and 80s.

The unsettled weather pattern will continue into the holiday weekend. It won’t be a complete washout, but hit-or-miss showers and storms are possible each afternoon and evening. Stay weather-aware if you plan on being outside!

A variable mix of sun and clouds is anticipated from Saturday into Memorial Day. It will be warm and humid with afternoon highs ranging from the upper 70s and into the middle 80s.
