Pinpoint Weather: Severe storm potential increasing

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – A few strong to severe storms are possible Monday night into Tuesday morning as warm and humid air remains.

The potential for severe storms looks higher on Tuesday, especially during the evening and overnight hours as a cold front moves through the region. Strong winds and large hail are the primary threat, but isolated tornadoes are not out of the question as the risk level increases to a level two or slight risk.

The severe weather potential looks to remain into the first half of the day on Wednesday with strong winds the main threat. The cold front will move east of the region around midday, which will take the threat out of the region.

The tornado and hail threats will be highest with any discrete cells that form. As lines of storms move through, strong winds will be the main threat.

Instability will be high as temperatures remain well above average on Tuesday with many areas getting into the 70s and 80s for highs.

Behind the front on Wednesday, cooler air will filter into the region. Calm conditions will return for the remainder of the week and weekend.
