Pink's high-flying act headlines night of powerful female performances at the AMAs

Pink raised the bar again with a high-flying performance at the American Music Awards Sunday night. Hanging by a cable hundreds of feet in the air, the pop star danced her way along the side of the JW Marriott in downtown Los Angeles while singing her new hit “Beautiful Trauma.” And Pink was just one of many ladies who dominated the show, which was hosted by Black-ish star Tracee Ellis Ross.

At the top of the show, Tracee said, “This year in music has been a reflection of this year in our country. A year where brave women have started a movement, as we own our experiences, our bodies, and our lives,” adding, “Ya heard me?” Dan Reynolds from Imagine Dragons, apparently, heard her as he jumped on board the female-empowerment train during the band’s acceptance speech. “This is the country that I know, which is one of powerful women,” Dan said.

Other powerful performances

The night of girl power was also filled with incredible performances. Demi Lovato dominating the stage, singing “Sorry Not Sorry.” Selena Gomez was dancing with the “Wolves” during a very intense performance. While Kelly Clarkson was “Miss Independent” singing a medley of her hits. But nobody brought the house down quite like Christina Aguilera, who had everyone on their feet with a tribute to Whitney Houston. While singing “I’m Every Woman,” Aguilera said, “This is for every woman in the audience. On your feet for Whitney!”

Lady Gaga also brought everyone together live via satellite from her concert in Washington, D.C. Gaga was singing “The Cure” in front of thousands of screaming fans at the Capital One Arena when she said, “We’ve got to be there for each other, America!”

The night ended with a tribute to the ultimate diva Diana Ross. The 73-year-old superstar took the stage and belted out a few of her classic hits. She ended the performance by singing “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” while her family joined her onstage.
