Picture perfect spring days ahead of an approaching storm

After an active and cool start to this April, much more seasonable and calm weather is on the way today. High temperatures will be 5-15° warmer than yesterday with sunny skies all day long – you may not even see a single cloud this afternoon. It’s a great day to take a hike, a stroll with your dog, or even just eat dinner outside. Tomorrow will be just as lovely as today but a couple degrees warmer statewide with plenty of sunshine and breezy winds, but it shouldn’t create any issues.

The weather will begin shifting on Friday as another storm system approaches the state. Winds will really begin to pick up Friday afternoon with gusts 60+ mph across western parts of the state, slightly less gusty east. High temperatures will still remain well above average statewide. With the gusty winds, dry air, and above average highs, fire danger will return Friday. Mountain snow will arrive to southern Colorado and far northern/western New Mexico later Friday afternoon and evening along with a Pacific cold front. This front will really cool temperatures down into Saturday.

Lingering mountain snow and lower elevation rain will continue across northern/western New Mexico Saturday while the entire state feels very gusty winds. It will be windiest across eastern New Mexico with gusts 65+ mph and very dry air in place. Fire danger is likely once again Saturday afternoon across the east, even with temperatures 10-25° cooler than Friday. Drier weather will arrive into Sunday, but it will still remain breezy to windy especially across the Central Mountain Chain. More seasonable temperatures will return Sunday as well, warming up even more into Monday before another storm impacts the state early to mid next week.
