Photos: Pink skies shine on the Outer Banks during rare glimpse of Northern Lights

Pink and purple hues in the sky could be seen from Coquina Beach, south of Nags Head, during a solar storm on Friday night that caused Northern Lights to be visible as far south as Alabama.

The “severe geomagnetic storm watch” was the first of its kind in nearly 20 years.
