PHOTOS: Brookfield Zoo welcomes koalas for first time in 90 years

BROOKFIELD, Ill. — Brookfield Zoo will be welcoming koalas for the first time in 90 years, the zoo announced.

According to the zoo, the koalas will be introduced Memorial Day weekend in partnership with San Diego Wildlife alliance and San Diego Zoo’s Koala Education and Conservation project.

The two 2-year-old marsupials named Brumby and Willium will be visible beginning May 24 in the Zoo’s Hamill Family Play Zoo, year-round with general admission.

The rare partnership is one of only 11 accredited zoological facilities in North American where the public is able to see and experience the fascinating animals.

The public is able to purchase a $35 Friend Package if they want to help support the care of Koalas at Brookfield Zoo.
