• Springtime is a lovely time to be in New York. The honking horns. The yelling people. The insane cab drivers. The smelly everything. Carry hand sanitizer, and if you’re in the Big Apple between April 14 and April 23, 2017, be sure to swing by the Jacob Javits Convention Center to see these 20 new debuts up close and in person at the 2017 New York International Auto Show.

• 2018 Acura TLX

  Acura’s midsize sedan gets a new face, new A-Spec performance-tuned variant, and standard Acura Watch driver-assistance and collision-avoidance systems. Otherwise, it is largely unchanged aside from minor refinements and detailing.

• 2017-2018 Audi RS 3

  Audi Sport is finally getting serious about fleshing out the Audi RS performance line of vehicles for the North American market, in much the same way that Mercedes-Benz has done with its AMG line. This is the new RS 3, packed with a 400-horsepower, 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine and capable of reaching 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, according to Audi.

• 2018 Audi TT RS

  Take the same drivetrain that’s used for the new Audi RS 3, cram it into the little Audi TT sports coupe, and you’ve got a distinctively styled all-weather sports car with a modicum of practicality.

• 2018 Buick Enclave

  Redesigned for the first time in a decade, the popular Buick Enclave sheds weight while continuing to offer a voluminous interior. The Enclave is equipped with the latest in driver-assistance, collision-avoidance, safety, and infotainment technologies, and introduces Buick’s new Avenir luxury-oriented trim level.

• 2018 Buick Regal

  Based on the Opel Insignia and built in Germany, the new 2018 Buick Regal is no longer offered as a sedan. Instead, buyers choose between a rakish 5-door hatchback and a rugged-looking station wagon. The former is called the Regal Sportback, while the latter is the Regal TourX.

• 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon

  This, ladies and gentlemen, is the Muhammad Ali of muscle cars. The insane Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is the greatest of all time, weaponized with an 840-horsepower, 6.2-liter, supercharged V-8 engine that gets the hefty car to 60 mph in 2.3 seconds, to 100 mph in 5.1 seconds, and through the quarter-mile in 9.65 seconds. Dodge will build just 3,000 examples for American consumption.

• 2017 Honda Civic Si

  Turbocharging allows Honda to use a smaller-displacement, 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine in the new Civic Si, and while it makes the same 205 horsepower as the previous model it generates more torque lower in the rev range in order to ensure sprightly performance. The usual Si upgrades are evident inside and out, and the car comes only in coupe and sedan body styles.

• 2018 Honda Clarity

  For 2018, the Honda Clarity lineup expands to include new plug-in hybrid and electric versions of the car. They join the existing Clarity fuel-cell version, providing consumers with three green choices in the midsize car segment. The Clarity plug-in hybrid has 42 miles of electric driving range and 330 miles of total electric and gasoline range before you need to find an electrical outlet or gas station. The Clarity Electric offers about 80 miles of range before it requires a recharge.

• 2018 Hyundai Sonata

  Seeking to inject some excitement into its midsize family sedan, Hyundai gives the 2018 Sonata sportier styling, premium interior details, re-tuned suspension and steering for a more engaging driving character, and improved safety and infotainment technologies.

• 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

  With the new Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, Jeep has created one of the most compelling performance SUV bargains ever. It has a supercharged, 6.2-liter V-8 engine making 707 horsepower, enough to sling it to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and to a top speed of 180 mph, Jeep says. Appropriate drivetrain, suspension, and braking modifications accompany the extra muscle.

• 2018 Kia Rio

  Small, entry-level car buyers will have one more pint-sized option in 2018. A new Kia Rio arrives, powered by an updated 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine making 130 horsepower. From its more robust vehicle architecture to new safety and infotainment systems, the Rio is a better car than ever, if not quite as stylish as it was before.

• 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar

  Though it debuted in Geneva, the new 2018 Range Rover Velar is shown in North America for the first time at the New York auto show. Based on the Jaguar F-Pace platform and using the same family of engines, the Velar brings upscale Range Rover design to a more affordable price point.

• 2018 Lexus LS 500 F Sport

  In New York, Lexus introduced the new F Sport versions of the company’s upcoming LS 500 and LS 500h flagship sedans. Styling changes and 20-in. wheels signal the F Sport’s performance intentions, and Lexus tunes the car for improved responsiveness and handling.

• 2018 Lincoln Navigator

  Completely redesigned, the new 2018 Lincoln Navigator features a robust steel frame, aluminum body panels, twin-turbocharged V-6 engine making 450 horsepower, and seating for 7 people. Lincoln promises class-leading towing capacity and cargo space and will offer the new Navigator through its exclusive Black Label membership channel.

• 2018 Mercedes-AMG GLC63

  Fortified with a hand-built, twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter V-8 engine and a long list of mechanical upgrades, the new 2018 Mercedes-AMG GLC63 is a high-performance compact SUV available in a traditional 2-box body style or with a rakish roofline to create what the company calls a “coupe.” The GLC63 S increases power output from 469 to 503 horsepower.

• 2018 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo

  Believe it or not, there are a handful of people who adore station wagons. Porsche recognizes this, and has created the Panamera Sport Turismo just for them. While cargo space isn’t much improved, the extended roofline looks terrific and makes the Sport Turismo a more distinctive alternative to the standard Panamera.

• Subaru Ascent Concept

  In New York, Subaru rolled out its new Ascent SUV in conceptual format. Designed to hold up to 8 people in 3 rows of seats, the Ascent is about the size of a Honda Pilot and will have a new turbocharged 4-cylinder engine as well as standard all-wheel drive. The company will build the Ascent in Indiana, and it goes on sale in 2018.

• 2018 Subaru Crosstrek

  Following its global debut in Geneva earlier this year, the redesigned 2018 Subaru Crosstrek arrived in New York. Based on the Impreza 5-door hatchback, the Crosstrek has standard all-wheel drive, 8.7 ins. of ground clearance, and a 152-horsepower, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with a manual gearbox or a continuously variable transmission.

• 2018 Subaru Outback

  A freshened Outback is coming for the 2018 model year, featuring minor styling changes, subtle interior updates, revised dynamic tuning, and several new infotainment, driver-assistance, and collision-avoidance technologies.

• 2018 Volvo XC60

  Based on the same vehicle architecture as the XC90 SUV, the redesigned 2018 Volvo XC60 is smaller but no less powerful than its larger sibling. Volvo supplies its family of Drive-E power plants in XC60 T5, T6, and T8 model series, and this 5-passenger model is equipped with the same safety and infotainment technologies found in the XC90.
