PHILLIPSBURG, Kan. (KSNW) — The Phillips County sheriff has announced his resignation.

Sheriff Charles Radabaugh posted to Facebook Wednesday night that he was resigning from office. His last day will be July 2. The sheriff states in the post that another opportunity has come up, and he is leaving law enforcement for the position.

Almost eight years ago, I ran for the office of Sheriff on the promise of cleaning up the drug problems and that I would only be a two term Sheriff.

With the hard work of several capable deputies, the first part was accomplished in short order during my first term. Did we totally rid the county of it? Unfortunately not, but we made a significant impact and sent many to prison or made it uncomfortable enough for them to move to surrounding counties and states.

Another opportunity has presented itself and I’ve decided to retire from this profession with six months remaining of my second term. It’ll be up to the Governor to appoint someone to fill that time period, but Undersheriff Pinkerton is very capable of running the office until then.

It’s my hope that this news doesn’t leave the coffee gossips in a lurch, but I’m sure they’ll be able to come up with all kinds of stories between now and July 2nd.

I’ve enjoyed my time serving the citizens of Phillips County and appreciate being given the opportunity to do so.”
