(WHTM) – Phillies fans will have to wait one more day to see baseball back at Citizens Bank Park.

The Phillies announced on Wednesday that the season opener scheduled for Thursday has been postponed due to rain.

The game will be played on Friday, March 29 with gates opening at 12:35 p.m.

“This decision was made after consultation with Major League Baseball and various weather services,” said Phillies Executive Vice President David Buck.

Tickets and parking for opening day will be valid for March 29 with on-field festivities starting at 2:20 p.m.

The Phillies are looking to return to the playoffs for the third consecutive year after back-to-back appearances in the National League Championship series.

The team’s core is largely returning minus first baseman Rhys Hoskins, who left in free agency after missing the 2023 season due to a torn ACL. Philadelphia added utilityman Whit Merrifield and retained starting pitcher Aaron Nola in free agency.

Also in the region, the Baltimore Orioles are scheduled for opening day on March 28 at 3 p.m.
