Philadelphia named a top beer city in U.S. See where it ranks and why
It’s no secret Philadelphia loves its beer, and now there’s an extra reason to raise a glass.
The USA TODAY 10Best Beer Cities of 2024 list, released Friday, featured 10 beer scenes across the U.S. applauded for their breweries, pubs, festivals and homebrewing communities.
Philadelphia ranked 9th on the list.
“The City of Brotherly Love is a hard-drinking town — ask anyone who’s been on South Street during last call — and more and more Philadelphians are focusing their efforts on enjoying the area’s impressive craft brews,” the story read, while pointing out standouts such as Yards Brewing Company Monk’s Cafe and City Tap House, along with the longstanding tradition of Philly Beer Week.
Monk’s Cafe received additional recognition last week when it was named to the USA TODAY 10Best Beer Bars of 2024 list.

Located just three blocks from Rittenhouse Square, Monk’s Cafe has been around for 27 years, making a name for itself with its extensive selection of Belgian beers, complimented by a hearty Belgium-inspired menu.

Topping the list of USA TODAY’s 10Best Brewery Tours in the Country, Tröegs Independent Brewing in Hershey, captured the attention of beer lovers with its 1-hour behind-the-scenes looks at its production process.
South Jersey beer scene recognized
Across the river, Hammonton, NJ grabbed the number five spot in the USA TODAY 10Best Small Town Beer Scenes list, for establishing itself as “an excellent destination for beer lovers.”
And that’s not all for the Garden State.
Lost Elephant Brewing Company in Elmer, Salem County, ranked number three for best new brewery in the U.S., while Nevermore, a black saison from Core 3 Brewery in Clayton, Gloucester County, snagged second place for best beer label of 2024.
