Pflugerville school board approves 2% pay increase for 2024-25 school year

Pflugerville school district employees will see a 2% pay increase for the 2024-25 school year.

During its meeting Thursday, the school board approved a one-time salary increase as part of its compensation plan for the upcoming school year.

"Staff, we hope you are liking this plan," board President Renae Mitchell said during the meeting. "We are a destination district."

The pay bump will make a starting teacher's salary $57,000, an increase of $2,700. The plan also has a stipend increase of $1,500 for inclusion/resource and early childhood special education teachers and $3,000 for behavioral and essential academics/communication teachers, said Willie Watson, the district's chief human resources officer.

The plan also includes a $2 raise for hourly employees, from $15 to $17, said Chief Financial Officer Jennifer Land.

Bus drivers will receive a $1 pay increase per hour for a starting hourly rate of $23.50, and bus monitors will see a $1.50 increase to their current rate of $15.50, Land said. School nurses will get a $5,000 increase to their current starting salary of $58,750.

Currently, the pay raises would put the district in a $6.9 million deficit for the next fiscal year, Land said. The district has a total of 3,000 employees. Officials said their salaries make up 86% of the district's budget.

"We are continuing to refine the budget. The budget is fluid, not static," Land told the board. "As we continue to get more information, this may change between now and when you actually adopt the budget in August."
