Update on petition to remove Tony May from RE-2 school board ballot

GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) — The effort to recall Tony May and remove him from next school year’s ballot continues.

The petition submitted to remove Tony May surpassed the minimum requirement of 2,038 signatures with 2,441 signatures.

After the petition was submitted, it was protested by May and his team.

The leader of the recall effort Willow Brotzman talked to WesternSlopeNow about where the issue currently stands.

“What they protested was the county clerk’s ability to set a circulation date and start the 60 days on the next business day, rather than the approval date starting the 60-day window for a petition.”

Mesa County Treasurer Sheila Reiner was brought in as a third party to supervise the case.

May and his team then appealed Reiner’s decision in district court. The hearing on that appeal will take place in a Garfield County courtroom in mid-June.
