SPENNYMOOR, England (WJW) — No one will ever know the extent of what Agnus the snake has gone through in the past months. But what matters is she’s home now.

The pet corn snake, which had been missing for a year, was reportedly found, miraculously, on a neighbor’s garage roof in England after a crow dropped it off into the yard.

The United Kingdom’s Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) told the BBC they received a call about the snake in the yard last month.

Upon arrival, the animal welfare charity said the 3-foot long snake was not in the best shape, due to battling cold temperatures and a crow that, according to what RSPCA inspector John Lawson told the BBC, “realized it had bitten off more than it could chew.”

Following the rescue from the roof, Lawson said a neighbor came over and identified the snake as their missing pet.

Before going home for good, Agnus was first taken to a veterinarian for inspection.

“The vet believes Agnus had gone into brumation mode, similar to hibernation, and her body had shut down in order to survive,” Lawson explained to the BBC. “It really is amazing that she survived for so long without heat — and also survived after a crow had decided to try to fly off with her.”

As snakes are “excellent escape artists,” according to the RSPCA. The society advised snake owners to keep their pets in secure spaces.
