Pet Patrol: Tips for traveling with your pet

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Springtime means a lot more traveling for people enjoying the warm weather and breaks from school, and if you’re bringing along a furry friend, there’s a lot to consider.

One thing is the hidden expenses that always pop up when traveling with a pet. It pays to look at Airbnb listings ahead of time to make sure they’re pet-friendly. If they’re not, you could end up being charged extra for cleaning services.

It’s also a good idea to look ahead to see what you’re going to need for the entire vacation.

“Keep a look out on the environment that you’re taking your pet into,” said Devyn Kettner, director of sales with Spot Pet Insurance. “Do some research beforehand. Are there a lot of pet-friendly restaurants, coffee shops, hotels.

You should also check out the weather where you’re going.

“Know what you’re getting yourself and your pet into, because the last thing you want to do is put them in an uncomfortable situation,” Kettner said.

It’s also a good idea to have a first-aid kit for your pet. It should contain a lot of the same things that a kid for humans would have, including eye solution, gauze, tape, hydrogen peroxide and any medications your pet needs. You should also keep a bowl or water bottle and a banket in your car for your pet.
