Construction worker hit by car, road closed in South Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A portion of U.S. Route 23 was closed Sunday night after reports of a construction worker being hit by a car, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said.

The accident happened at approximately 9:08 p.m. on US-23 just south of the Interstate 270 exit. There, a black 2024 Nissan Pathfinder was heading southbound when it struck a pedestrian construction worker near the edge of the east side of the roadway.

The injured pedestrian was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. The driver the Nissan was checked over at the scene and did not sustain any injuries.

There is no word on what, if any, charges the driver will face.

The FCSO said it is still unclear if the construction worker was in the roadway or not. By 10:40 p.m. Sunday, the roadway had reopened.
