Pennsylvania Rep. Clint Owlett warns about scam calls asking for donations

Pa. (WETM) – Pennsylvania State Representative Clint Owlett is warning people about a scam call that has surfaced in which attempts to impersonate him by asking for donations over the phone.

According to a press release from Representative Owlett’s Office, the scam is a robocall that sounds just like Owlett and asks people to make a donation in support of the police.

Owlett notes in the release that he never recorded or authorized these messages, and while he does support law enforcement officers and legitimate efforts to raise money for them, these calls are not coming from his office and should be reported to local police immediately.

“I am outraged that someone would use my voice to try to take advantage of people’s generosity toward our hard-working law enforcement officers,” Owlett said. “We have reported this incident to our state and local police and county sheriff’s offices.”

Owlett learned about the call when a person contacted his office to verify that it was real.

According to this person, the voice on the other end claims to be Owlett and sounds just like him. The caller then asks the person for a donation and credit card information.

Anyone who receives one of these calls, or has fallen victim to these calls already, is encouraged to contact their local police department, as well as their credit card company to dispute the charge.
