Nighttime lane restrictions starting on I-81 in Cumberland County

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– PennDOT is alerting drivers of planned lane restrictions on I-81 in Cumberland County.

A news release from PennDOT says crews will be testing the pavement for future rehabilitation projects on Sunday, April 14 and the restrictions will be implemented from 8 p.m. through 6 a.m. The restrictions will be in place for five weeks and crews will work from Sunday night till Thursday morning.

Restrictions will be implemented on northbound and southbound lanes from Mile 47.2 to Mile 52.2, approximately from Route 34/Hanover Street to just north of the Route 11 interchange, according to the release.

More restrictions are planned for concrete patching and asphalt paving on I-81 the weekend of April 19-22 and May 3-5 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The location of these restrictions will be from Mile 53.5 to Mile 55, which is about midway between the Route 11 and Route 114 exits, PennDOT says. Work will begin in the right lanes for the first weekend and then work will be done on the left lanes the following weekend.

This work is part of a 12.85-mile, $24.5 million, resurfacing project on I-81 from Route 15/Enola in East Pennsboro Township, to Route 581/Lambs Gap Road in Hampden Township.

The contractor is New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, Inc., of New Enterprise, PA.
