Take a Peek Inside the Obamas' Stunning New Washington, D.C. Home
The Obamas are back from the vacation of a lifetime and settling into their new Washington D.C. home.
So where do you go from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue? Even though it’s not the White House, their swanky new digs are certainly palatial by most standards. And the 8,200-square-foot house is located in the exclusive Kalorama neighborhood, just blocks away from Ivanka Trump’s stunning new abode.
The Obamas' charming Tudor house was built in 1928. It has nine bedrooms and eight-and-a-half bathrooms, a fireplace, a finished attic and basement, crown molding, walk-in closets, a wet bar and more. The property also includes a two-tiered flagstone terrace with formal gardens and a courtyard with enough space for eight-to-10 vehicles.
The photos of the home, provided by the McFadden Group, are from 2014. It likely underwent some cosmetic adjustments in preparation for the former first family. Nevertheless, you can still get a feel of the house’s innate grandeur and charm.
According to CNN, a Zillow estimate concluded that renting the mansion could cost the Obamas as much as $22,000 a month. Current D.C. tax assessments value the home at $7 million.
Unlike many former presidents, Obama says they plan on staying in Washington, D.C. - at least until Sasha finishes her education at Sidwell Friends School. "We're going to have to stay a couple of years in D.C. probably so Sasha can finish," he told CNN. "Transferring someone in the middle of high school? Tough."
