Pedestrian struck by NJ Transit train early Wednesday in Garfield

A pedestrian was hit by a train early Wednesday morning, causing delays and cancellations along the Bergen County Line, NJ Transit said.

At about 5:33 a.m., an out-of-service train was being moved on the Bergen County Line when it struck and injured a pedestrian near Plauderville Station in Garfield.

There were no customers on the train, and no other injuries were reported to the crew, NJ Transit said.

The extent of the pedestrian's injuries is not known.

According to alerts on the NJ Transit website, multiple cancellations resulted, but as of 9:30 a.m. the Bergen County Line rail service had resumed in both directions, subject to up to 20-minute delays.

NJ Transit police are leading the investigation of the incident.
