Pedestrian struck, killed by tractor-trailer on US 70 in Iredell County: Highway Patrol

STATESVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer early Thursday morning in Iredell County, according to NC State Highway Patrol.

The accident happened around 6:30 a.m. Thursday, April 18, on US 70 near Cedar Hill Trail.

Troopers said a 2024 Kenworth tractor-trailer was traveling west on US 70 and struck a pedestrian who was walking westbound in the road. They said the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing and the road was not lit.

The pedestrian, identified as Tyson Matthew Painton, 47, of Statesville, died from his injuries at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 62-year-old man from Concord, was not injured.

The area was closed for about two hours following the accident.

Highway Patrol said their initial investigation does not show impairment or speed to be contributing factors. No charges will be filed in this case.
