Pedestrian killed southwest of Wichita Tuesday night identified

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office says a vehicle hit and killed a person southwest of Wichita.

Lt. Nathan Gibbs told KSN Wednesday afternoon that the pedestrian was 18-year-old Bethany Aillen Callista Leggio. She was a student at Campus High School.

It happened around 11 p.m. Tuesday at 55th Street South and Hoover Road.

The sheriff’s office says a group of people were on the road for a memorial service when a car tried to pass and hit Leggio. The vehicle also struck a couple of parked cars as well.

“We recently had an accident from an illegal street race, and they were down here in remembrance of the individual who passed, and in the process of doing that, someone else was killed. So these types of activities have to stop,” Lt. Eric Slay, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, said.

KSN will update this story if/when more information is confirmed.
