Who pays for it? Donations keep operations going for Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis
ST. LOUIS – Most people have heard of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis—it’s the best of the best detectives who investigate some of the most serious crimes, from homicides and sexual assaults to child abductions.
What most people don’t know are the ins and outs of the MCS, and you might be surprised to hear about how this elite group manages to maintain a clearance rate far greater than the national average.
You also might not be aware of how Major Case is funded. The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis, now in its 60th year, gets no state or federal funding. In order to continue providing services, they rely on donations from the community—from corporations, organizations, and individuals.

The organization will host its 23rd annual golf tournament fundraiser Friday, May 24 at The Golf Club of Florissant. All proceeds will support operations of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis. Annually, MCS incurs costs of about $100,000 for equipment, software, and training.
FOX 2’s Jasmine Huda spoke with the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis Commander Major Randy Boden, Chief Deputy Commander Jack Abell, and Deputy Commander Captain Dennis DeHart about MCS and the upcoming tournament.
