Paris Christian Center addressing food insecurity with grant

PARIS, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Arkansas leads the country in food insecurity across the United States, with 16.6% of its population reporting the issue, according to a recent study released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

With many Arkansans facing the concern of food insecurity, one local organization, the Paris Christian Center, is striving to make a difference.

The Paris Christian Center, led by Kellie Sprick, traces its roots back to the 1980s when it was founded by her parents.

Over the years, the center has established several outreach programs aimed at combating food insecurity in their community. These initiatives include food drive-thru distributions held every Wednesday and a mobile food pantry, which delivers free bags of groceries to the elderly.

The Paris Christian Center also operates a standard food pantry, available seven days a week via appointment.

Sprick said that she saw the need for food during the pandemic.

“If you are in need of an appointment, you can arrange it through our Facebook page,” Sprick said.

Receiving a grant to support their efforts, the Paris Christian Center is determined to address food insecurity in their community, one meal at a time.

With a range of outreach programs and a dedicated team, they stand as a beacon of hope for those struggling to put food on their tables in Arkansas.
