Painted Post man arrested on charges involving welfare fraud

PAINTED POST, N.Y. (WETM) – A Painted Post man has been arrested on multiple charges in connection to an incident of welfare fraud in Steuben County.

According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, Tyler C. Hollister, 24, was arrested on April 24, by investigators of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office after he allegedly provided false documents to the Steuben County Department of Social Services from March 1, 2023, to Aug. 31, 2023.

As a result of this, the sheriffs say Hollister received benefits totaling $3,096 that he was not eligible for, and was charged with the following:

  • Offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, a class E felony

  • Falsifying business records in the first degree, a class E felony

  • Welfare fraud in the third degree, a class D felony

  • Grand larceny in the third degree, a class D felony

He was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and released.
