SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The inclement weather has put a damper on the Padres’ opening weekend celebration in East Village.

The San Diego Padres home opener weekend kicked off Thursday, with a game everyday through Sunday against the San Francisco Giants. However, the rain has already led to the cancellation of the annual Block Party celebration and is threatening the second half of the series.

Meteorologist Megan Healy says the rain is forecast to move into the area Saturday morning into the afternoon, with several hours of heavy downpour expected to bring 1 to 2 inches of rain.

The annual East Village Block Party was scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 30 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in front of Petco Park during the Padres’ opening weekend for the 2024 season, but has officially been postponed due to the forecasted weather, a Padres spokesperson confirmed to FOX 5/KUSI.

What’s the forecast for Padres opening weekend?

The event website states the weekend Block Party has been postponed, with a new date to be announced soon.

Last weekend, the Padres Fan Fest was cancelled due to the weather.

Rain, wind and possible thunderstorms could delay this weekend’s games, or, worse case scenario, cause a rare rainout.

Tickets for Thursday’s Opening Day at Petco Park against the San Francisco Giants are sold out. On Friday, it’s a Party in the Park with discounted drinks and live entertainment, plus the first 40,000 fans in attendance will receive an Opening Series Hat. The game starts at 6:40 p.m.

Then on Sunday, its the first KidsFest of the year, with a bounce house and other inflatables, games, face painters and kid-friendly activities. After the game, kids 14 and under can run the bases.

Sunday is also Military Opening Day. Active duty service members, Veterans and their families will receive 25% off tickets on Sundays, and 10% off all season long.
