Ozark motel could have business license revoked

OZARK, Ala (WDHN) — A motel in Dale County may be out of business after a year-long fight with local authorities over alleged safety violations.

The Ozark City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, May 21, at 5:00 p.m. to discuss revoking the business license for Days Inn on Highway 231 in Ozark, owned by Namaste Hospitality, LLC.

The matter was brought to the council on the recommendation of Department of Public Safety Director Charles Ward.

Director Ward says that over the past year, his department and the city have tried to work with the motel to fix several violations. Those alleged violations include the motel not having any smoke alarms, and the ones it does have are dysfunctional.

According to Ward, the violations have not been resolved despite going to the hotel several times and working with management.

“It is an operation that is unsafe for its patrons,” said Director Ward.

Ozark City Attorney Joe Adams says the fire-related violations were discovered during routine inspections, and the city gave the motel “more than adequate time” to fix said violations.

The director told WDHN that Deputy Chief Fire Marshall Jeff Lowery went to the hotel to investigate separate claims that Days Inn was renting rooms for long-term periods and not by the day, which violates the motel’s business license.

WDHN contacted the Days Inn location in Ozark, but management declined to comment.
