'Overpass Patriots' prepare for another holiday

May 24—GREENSBURG — At noon Monday, the "Overpass Patriots" crew will be brandishing the good ol' red, white and blue and waving at interstate drivers to inspire good cheer, honking and friendly patriotism.

It's a tradition started nearly six years ago by local resident Robin Meyer and his then teenage daughter Sydney. Now, friends, families and friends of those families all join in for an event that grows larger every year.

In 2022, around 75 people participated, and that number grew to a respectable 150 or so in 2023.

And Memorial Day isn't the only day they gather to show their faith in the flag and the country for which it stands. The group also finds it meaningful on July 4 and on Labor Day (also known as Patriots' Day) in September.

Meyer said the group hears "a thousand horns honk" from passers-by. "I know they enjoy seeing us!" Meyer said.

New participants are welcome.

The Overpass Patriots will be on the I-74/Moscow Road overpass at the stroke of noon Monday. Bring a flag and a patriotic attitude.
