Ottawa County announces grant for drain cleanup

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. (WOOD) — A new grant will help cover the cost of cleaning up storm drains in Ottawa County.

Drain Commissioner Joe Bush said the county will announce the details of the grant Monday afternoon, but shared that it will help with the county’s efforts to clean up 2 miles of drainage in a specific part of the county.

In an interview on News 8 Daybreak, Bush said the grant will help not just the quality of water in the county, but the quantity of it as well.

“Our goal is to make sure people don’t flood,” he said.

Bush will join classrooms Monday afternoon to teach students about the journey water takes once it enters a storm drain and why it’s so important to prevent chemicals from washing away into those drains.
