The Gold Network of East Texas, an organization that supports families during their childhood cancer journey, participated in the yearly fundraising event.

“We come alongside families, we’re raising awareness we raise funds for research,” Heather Rucker, Gold Network of East Texas founder, said.

They set up at Laurel and Pearl Bakery in Tyler for the day, hoping to reach their 2024 goal of $10,000.

“We’re 100% donor funded and also 100% volunteer,” Rucker said. “All the funds that we raise today are tax-deductible but also are going directly back into East Texas.”

The Gold Network of East Texas is only one of more than 360 organizations seeking support this year.

“Giving has been so generous today, we are so excited,” Rucker said.

Near downtown Tyler, a food truck festival was also organized to raise money for the Better Me Foundation. They said 15% of the money raised would go toward their cause of supporting young men who aged out of foster care with a housing program.

“By donating you’re keeping a young man from being homeless,” Shronica Holmes, executive director of Better Me Foundation, said.

These two organizations are encouraging East Texans to give back to their communities and help others.
