One person treated for smoke inhalation, two dogs rescued during Battle Creek house fire

BATTLE CREEK — Two dogs were rescued and one person was treated for smoke inhalation following a house fire on the southeast side of the city Saturday.

Battle Creek firefighters were dispatched to the structure fire at 19 Inn Road shortly after 6:40 a.m. Saturday and arrived to find heavy smoke coming from all areas of the two-story home, fire officials said in a news release.

Firefighters quickly discovered heavy flames pouring out of the rear of the structure and worked to extinguish the blaze, limiting the damage to the kitchen area and rear of the home.

One person, who was already outside of the home when fire crews arrived, was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation. They were in stable condition when they left the scene, officials said.

Two dogs were rescued by firefighters during their initial search. Oxygen was administered to the animals while on scene and then they were taken to a veterinarian for a checkup.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Battle Creek Fire Inspection Division.
