One person injured in Sarasota shooting, police ask public for help getting information

Sarasota Police officers are investigating a shooting that left one person with minor injuries Friday night.

The shooting happened at around 10 p.m. near the 2800 block of North Lemon Avenue. One adult victim was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

As of May 25, there have been 12 shootings this year in Sarasota County that have killed six people and injured nine. A week ago, 24-year-old Tommie Battie IV was killed early Saturday morning on 17th Street. Four others were injured in that incident, including the victim's brother Brian Battie, 22, who was a Sarasota High football player and currently is a running back at Auburn University. He remains in critical condition at a local hospital.

Investigators believe that the shooting is an isolated incident, and the public is not in danger. Anyone with information about the shooting can call the police department’s non-emergency line at 941-316-1199.
